Summary / Objectives The Universal Banker serves as a full‑service, single point of contact in the branch for SouthState customers. Acting in the dual capacity of a Teller and a Front‑Stage Representative (FSR), the role delivers exceptional customer service in both transactional and account‑management activities, seeks to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships, and contributes to the financial growth of the bank.

Essential Functions

Serve customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially in accordance with SouthState Bank Service Standards.

Know and understand the bank’s products and services—including facts, features, benefits, rules, regulations, and pricing.

Identify customer needs and seize opportunities to expand relationships through referrals.

Maintain a neat, professional appearance and uphold compliance with all banking regulations (e.g., Regulation CC, Bank Secrecy Act).

Develop a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and enroll customers in self‑service options.

Work collaboratively with other team members to share best practices and improve customer experience.

Assure that branch records, reports and other correspondence from customer development are timely, accurate, and properly distributed.

Teller Duties

Process transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.

Maintain a neat and orderly work area.

Assist in training new tellers as needed.

Provide safe deposit box access to customers.

Cash checks and process savings withdrawals within limits and procedures.

Sell certified checks.

Balance transactions daily.

Service or balance ATM as required.

Utilize the branch capture system.

Minimize operational errors, maintain proper workflow, and follow security and audit procedures.

Front‑Stage Representative (FSR) Duties

Open new deposit accounts and manage other services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and account maintenance within limits.

Explain policies and procedures while keeping in mind that most customers may be unfamiliar with them.

Resolve customer problems and complaints courteously and discreetly; refer complex issues to appropriate resources.

Show sincere appreciation for each customer’s time and business and provide a business card when appropriate.

Follow branch security and audit protocols and understand security device functions.

Universal Banker Functions

One year of teller or cash‑handling experience and six months of customer‑relationship building or sales experience.

Demonstrated expertise in Teller II and basic FSR functions.

Additional responsibilities may include vault or back‑up vault duties.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Cash handling, sales, and customer service experience; prior banking experience preferred.

Good interpersonal, computer, reading, writing, speaking, and English comprehension skills (both written and oral).

Training Requirements / Classes

The SouthState Way – New Team Member Orientation.

Teller Foundations.

Banker Foundations.

All assigned Regulatory Compliance Training.

Acknowledgement of all policies through DocuSign.

Additional training may be required depending on experience.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and/or sit for extended periods, and operate computers and other equipment effectively.

Work Environment The position is located in an open lobby area with a dedicated workstation. It is inside a climate‑controlled facility.

Travel Travel may be required for meetings or training.
