Overview
UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge is a unique Southern California meeting and retreat venue located on the tranquil shores of Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains. The 50‑acre lodge hosts meetings, banquets, and conference guests from September through mid‑June and operates a summer Camp program (BruinWoods) that serves up to 80 families each week.
Position Summary The Assistant Cook is primarily responsible for preparing and producing menu items for dining, banquets, and conference guests—including approximately 4,000 guests during the BruinWoods season. The role involves working in a high‑volume environment and coordinating with team members and guests.
Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Salary offers consider budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Benefits start on day one.
Qualifications
2-3 years of food preparation and general kitchen maintenance (Required)
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Proficient English reading, writing, and speaking (Required)
Ability to engage diverse populations respectfully and culturally responsively (Required)
Team‑work ability (Required)
Basic math skills for recipes, measurements, and portion sizes (Required)
Knowledge of sanitation and safety rules and procedures for food service (Required)
Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods (Required)
Compliance with safety standards for personal and public safety (Required)
Experience producing and presenting food in a high‑volume restaurant setting (Required)
Excellent organizational and time‑management skills (Required)
Regular, punctual attendance (Required)
Independent operation and good judgment for customer satisfaction (Required)
Strong culinary techniques, practices, and terminology (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, and Certifications
Valid CA non‑commercial Class C motor‑vehicle license upon hire (Required)
Special Conditions for Employment
Background check required; employment contingent on satisfactory investigation
Live Scan background check required before start of employment
Age requirement: 18 years or older
Pre‑placement physical required; employment contingent on satisfactory exam
Driving record: position subject to California DMV Pull Notice System; satisfactory record required
Availability to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime (Required)
Driving university vehicles (Preferred)
Schedule Variable hours. Union/Policy covered. Service‑based schedule.
