Currently seeking to add staff for the accounting department due to growth.
The Accounting Specialist supports the Credit Union’s financial operations through accurate accounting, timely reconciliations, and effective collaboration across departments. This role ensures the integrity of financial data, assists with month‑end and year‑end closings, and contributes to regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, dependable, and committed to maintaining strong internal controls while providing exceptional service that reflects the Credit Union’s values.
Key Responsibilities
Reconcile general ledger accounts and clear outstanding items within required timeframes.
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account analyses during monthly and annual closes.
Assist in preparing quarterly Call Reports and supporting documentation.
Maintain the Fixed Asset subledger, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
Provide documentation for audits and examinations and support ad hoc financial reporting.
Serve as backup for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
Uphold confidentiality of all financial and member information.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience in a financial institution (Credit Union or Banking industry experience required).
Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas) and accounting software.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Preferred: Experience in credit unions or banking, and familiarity with Call Report schedules or systems such as Jack Henry/Velera or Sage Intacct.
