Summary/Objective:

The Monitor Technician is responsible for the monitoring of cardiac monitors to notify Nursing Units of abnormal variations.

Essential Job Duties:

Confirm the name of the nurse caring for each telemetry patient on the Centralized Telemetry Monitoring Unit (CTMU) monitor and update each shift.

Observe cardiac monitors and listen for alarms to identify abnormal heart rhythm variations and report changes to nursing staff immediately; post strips on patient records per guidelines.

Print and interpret cardiac strips at patient admission, once per shift and when rhythm abnormalities occur; place strips on the Waveform/ECG Mounting Form and deliver to appropriate units.

After discontinuation of telemetry, clean the transmitter and cardiac leads with bactericidal solution and store in the telemetry transmitter cabinet.

Monitor telemetry equipment for effectiveness, report problems to the Director, activate the Service Disruption/Emergency Operations Plan during outages, and notify nursing supervisors.

Perform clerical duties, prepare requisitions for supplies, obtain Director authorization as needed, and assist in maintaining a clean station and department.

Required Education & Experience:

1‑6 months of related experience; must be able to pass an EKG exam.
