Fire Safety Tech III (Fire Alarm Systems) Inside Higher Ed – Hanover, NH – Full‑time, 40 hrs/week (Mon‑Fri 7:30‑4:00, Sat/Sun off).

Salary: $35.69–$36.75 per hour, SEIU union level P.

The role is non‑exempt and on‑site only.

Job Summary Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and testing of all life‑safety systems, with a primary focus on fire alarm systems.

The technician identifies fire alarm problems, troubleshoots, and performs repairs, while also supporting sprinkler, suppression, and kitchen hood systems.

The position requires a strong foundational knowledge of local and national codes and technical schematics.

Responsibilities

Regular testing and maintenance of fire alarm, annunciation, and detection systems, including component assessment and troubleshooting.

Align, adjust, and calibrate equipment according to manufacturer specifications and testing instruments.

Replace defective wiring and components such as pull stations, smoke and CO detectors, horns, and strobes.

Plan and execute work details by following schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.

Set up and monitor public‑address systems for events and off‑hour operations.

Diagnose malfunction causes when testing electronic and mechanical components.

Recharge fire extinguishers using a filling station.

Maintain accurate records of repairs, calibrations, and inspections.

Support the Red Tag permit system for sprinkler systems and fire protections.

Qualifications

High school graduate (or equivalency).

Minimum four years of relevant experience in life‑safety systems.

Valid driver’s license and compliance with Dartmouth Approved Driver policy.

Proficiency in identifying and installing fire‑safety system parts.

Knowledge of fire suppression systems, including sprinklers, tamper, flow switches, and kitchen hoods.

Strong understanding of NFPA 10, 13, 25, 70, and 72, as well as local and national codes.

Experience with alarm‑system repair tools (signal generators, voltmeters, soldering irons, screwdrivers, wiring tools).

Ability to follow detailed schematics and wiring diagram blueprints.

Computer skills for troubleshooting and programming fire alarm panels (BirdDog/Asario preferred).

Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and customer‑service skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and willingness to work overtime when required.

Working Conditions

Regular bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in cramped positions.

Frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs.

Stair climbing in buildings and work in laboratory, kitchen, mechanical/electrical, and public areas.

Exposure to electric shock, burns, cuts, chemical fumes, noise, dust, and smoke.

Use of protective clothing (aprons/overalls, gloves, goggles, masks).
