Reports To: Residence Hall Director
Position Summary: The Hall Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure living environment for residents in assigned residence halls. This position ensures compliance with university housing policies, monitors hallways and entry points, and provides assistance to students and staff as needed. The Hall Monitor serves as a visible presence in the residence halls, promoting safety, security, and community standards.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Security
Greet and check identification of individuals entering residence halls when necessary.
Strictly monitor hallways and exit doors by walking floors and maintaining visibility.
Prevent violations and enforce university rules and regulations.
Provide information and assistance to University Police as needed.
Communication & Customer Service
Answer telephone calls professionally, courteously, and efficiently; take and deliver messages promptly.
Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs and concerns of residents.
Be familiar with persons living in assigned residence halls.
Policy Enforcement & Incident Reporting
Be familiar with and enforce residence hall policies.
Keep and maintain a daily log prior to end of shift.
Prepare written reports of all incidents (violations, fire alarms, bomb threats, fights, vandalism, emergencies, etc.) in and around assigned areas.
Administrative Duties
Admit students to rooms when locked out.
Perform specific administrative tasks as assigned.
Attend staff training and comply with rules and regulations outlined in the Residential Life/Student Housing Handbook and University Personnel Manual.
Other Duties
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by Residence Life management.
Physical Demands Work Conditions: Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required. Must be able to walk floors and remain on feet for extended periods.
Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Previous experience in security, customer service, or residence life preferred.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies; attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
