Job Description
This position directly supports the technology needs of Brown University’s Department of Public Safety, a sworn, fully-functioning law enforcement agency operating 24/7 to protect and serve the Brown community. The Physical Security Technician II works with the Physical Security Technician III and other Technicians in the support of the Security Systems and Public Safety Technology across the University. The team is responsible for service, maintenance, and repair of the Security Systems and Public Safety Technology across the University. This includes IP Video Security Systems, Access Control Systems, Panic Alarm Systems, Intrusion Alarm Systems, and other Public Safety Technology systems used for the safety and security of Brown University Assets and the Brown University Community. While supporting the Security Systems and Public Safety Technology, the Physical Security Technician II will make recommendations for system improvements, and evaluate the systems to identify necessary repairs. All tasks will be performed in accordance with best practices, Public Safety Technology SOPs and Design Standards. Physical Security Technicians are required to participate in an on-call rotation schedule. While on-call, Physical Security Technicians must be available to answer calls/emails after normal working hours and on weekends/holidays depending on the rotation order. This position is subject to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) requirements. Due to the confidential, sensitive nature of information this position may encounter, applicants must be willing to allow for a Background Investigation by Brown Public Safety. This position is subject to immunization requirements due to the nature of work. Must be willing to complete initial immunizations and any follow-up/boosters. Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other field; 3 years of experience with Video Security Systems, Access Control Systems, Alarm & Intrusion Systems, Intercoms, Basic Computer Networking, Basic Telecommunications and other industry related technology. Hands‑on experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Video Security Systems (CCTV) and Access Control Systems. Knowledge of Axis. Preferred Certifications
Software House – CCURE 9000 Installer Certified Genetec Security Center Certified State of RI Telecommunications Data License Preferred Experience with Product Lines

Proficiency in reading and understanding architectural, network, or electrical layouts and diagrams. Strong technical abilities to troubleshoot, support, and maintain critical hardware/software components in a 24x7 operation. Strong problem solving skills, organizational skills, and ability to manage projects. Project management skills in planning and monitoring projects within a cross‑functional environment. Preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities Ability to work through problems and find solutions is a must. Ability to understand the phases of a system installation; cable, equipment, programming, testing and training, and be able to perform each of these tasks in addition to troubleshoot problems with systems efficiently. Understanding and comfortable working with basic IP networks. Experience with Google Suite preferred Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications preferred Higher education experience preferred Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs Ability to climb a ladder at least 15ft Ability to travel across campus Ability and experience using hand & power tools Clean driving record required Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. Ability to climb a ladder at least 15 ft. Ability to travel across campus, often on foot and occasionally transporting tools or equipment. Comfortable using standard hand and power tools. Security & Health Requirements
