Overview Koch Ag & Energy Solutions LLC (KAES) is seeking a

Systems Engineer

to join the Koch Energy Services (KES) Natural Gas Trading team in

Wichita, Kansas . In this role, you will support IT and business operations by ensuring reliable, accurate, and optimized system performance. You will collaborate with business users, analysts, and software engineers to deliver effective system solutions and promote best practices for managing KES’ data assets. Your contributions will directly enhance the efficiency of key business functions.

This position works cross-functionally with teams in Trading, Logistics, Risk Management, KAES Data Analytics, and other IT groups across KAES to meet critical data needs that support diverse business opportunities. The ideal candidate has experience implementing modern cloud-based data architectures, an entrepreneurial mindset, strong communication abilities, and excellent critical thinking skills.

As a KAES Systems Engineer, you will focus on aligning technology with business priorities, lead projects that enhance capabilities, minimize inefficiencies, and unlock revenue opportunities while driving strategic change for our customers.

Responsibilities

Manage relationships with Developer Leads, Technical Leads, Application Support, and DBAs while independently collaborating across technical teams and driving system discussions with vendors and consultants.

Strategize new initiatives to optimize ETRM performance and address technical debt. Facilitate communication between the ION team and users regarding issues and updates.

Evaluate hardware capacity and provide upgrade suggestions based on thorough utilization assessments. Develop detailed documentation of past issues and solutions to support future team collaboration.

Modernize platform maintenance involving continuous performance management, data purging, system monitoring, tuning, hardware load balancing, and increased hardware footprint to accommodate growth. Maintain grid engines, licenses, and servers.

Basic Qualifications

Experience in system analysis, process analysis, or development.

Experience leveraging cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.

Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, using tools such as SVN, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.

Proficiency in anticipating and evaluating technical changes to maintain and enhance system performance.

Expertise in anticipating and assessing technical change impacts to system health to maintain and improve performance and develop technical solutions as required.

Experience with internal development standards, performing code and architectural reviews, monitoring responding and automating system issues.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, or Business Analytics.

Experience with AWS big data services (e.g., Kinesis, Glue, EMR) and ETL/analytics tools (Matillion, Talend, AtScale).

Familiarity with data virtualization (Denodo) and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).

Knowledge in data storage technologies (Redshift, S3, Hadoop, Snowflake).

Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks (Java, Python, Apache Spark, PL/SQL, T-SQL).

Experience working with ETRM systems.

Experience in energy trading with a solid understanding of the end-to-end commodity industry, preferably North American natural gas, including trading, risk management, and data analysis.
