Position Overview
The Controller is responsible for leading Greyson’s accounting function with precision, integrity, and an operational mindset. This role builds upon the company’s financial and accounting foundation, ensuring strong accounting processes, accurate reporting, and scalable systems to support continued growth as an omnichannel apparel and manufacturing business.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts receivable and payable, multi-state tax reporting, payroll accounting, revenue recognition, inventory valuation, ecommerce reconciliations, and lease accounting.
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls that support clean audits.
Ensure balance sheet integrity, P&L accuracy, and GAAP compliance across the organization.
Reinforce treasury-related accounting with a focus on working capital management, cash visibility, and disciplined bank reconciliation processes.
Manage tax-related accounting entries, including deferred tax assets and liabilities and tax provisions, and oversee timely tax compliance and filings in partnership with external tax advisors.
Maintain, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls appropriate for a scaling omnichannel retail environment.
Strategic Finance Partnership
Own external GAAP and Bank financial statement accuracy and compliance while partnering closely with FP&A during monthly reviews, forecasting, and annual planning cycles.
Support department leaders with financial policy and coding such that FP&A can drive insight and reporting clarity, translating transactional activity into clear performance against budget and forecasts.
Contribute to the development, monitoring, and interpretation of financial KPIs and operational benchmarks, supporting cashflow, bank covenants, and working capital metrics.
Operational Excellence & Systems
Drive process improvement and system modernization, including NetSuite optimization, ADP HRIS workflow automation, and Avalara tax accuracy and compliance.
Support ERP initiatives and system integrations, including Shopify (eCommerce and retail reconciliations) and future technology investments.
Serve as the accounting lead for all audits, tax compliance, and special projects.
Strengthen shared services processes across the organization to enforce and enhance purchasing governance.
Team Leadership & Development
Manage, coach, and develop the Accounting team, ensuring appropriate staffing, clear ownership, and cross-training.
Educate and partner with cross-functional leaders to elevate financial acumen across the organization, for example supporting training on Chart of Accounts to support transactional coding, understand systems mappings, and drive policy education and communication.
Foster a culture of clarity, trust, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA, CMA, or similar certification preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2–3 years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
Prior experience within retail, apparel, manufacturing, or consumer products environments.
Demonstrated success leading and developing accounting teams (staff of +5 direct reports).
Strong command of GAAP, internal controls, multi-state tax and payroll compliance, and audit readiness.
Advanced hands‑on experience with NetSuite & ADP Workforce Now, including reporting, saved searches, workflows, integrations, mappings, and configurations.
Experience administering banking and treasury platforms, expense management tools (e.g., Ramp), and tax applications such as Avalara.
Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment with competing priorities.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to simplify complexity.
Excellent communication skills, capable of partnering with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
High degree of ownership, accountability, and sound judgment.
Ability to balance hands‑on execution with strategic and operational thinking.
