Job Title: Director - Academic Support and Retention
Department: Vice Provost for Student Success
Salary: $73,957 - $93,062; commensurate with experience
Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Director of Academic Support and Retention Programs is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing academic learning support components (such as tutoring and supplemental instruction) and retention programs. This role ensures that programs align with institutional goals to enhance student learning, persistence, and degree completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage academic support services such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, and retention programs.
Collaborate with the Associate Vice Provost for Student Success to allocate resources effectively, including budget oversight and planning for future budget cycles.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, and campus leaders on learner support and retention programs.
Utilize data analytics to assess and report on the effectiveness of support programs, implementing data‑driven strategies for continuous improvement.
Partner with academic units, faculty, and other stakeholders to align retention efforts with university goals, ensuring optimal use of resources to promote student success.
Monitor retention metrics, identify at‑risk students, and develop targeted interventions (e.g., REBOUND) to improve outcomes.
Oversee the THEC Quality Assurance Funding Plan (QAF) implementation and reporting in support of student success initiatives.
Collaborate with the Office of Student Success (OSS) and other campus offices to develop and promote strategic initiatives to enhance persistence, retention, and degree completion.
Required Education: Master’s degree required. Doctorate in higher education, educational leadership, or a related field preferred.
Required Related Experience: Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in higher education in an administrative and/or faculty role.
Desirable Related Experience: At least five years of experience in project or program development, management, or strategic planning within an academic setting.
