JOB SUMMARY: Civil Clothing Inc. is seeking an HR Manager to join our fast-growing e-commerce apparel company in Torrance, CA. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing all HR functions to support the company’s operational and strategic goals. This role manages recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, compliance, payroll department and HR policy development. The HR Manager serves as a trusted advisor to leadership and ensures a positive, productive, and legally compliant workplace environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Recruitment & Onboarding
Manage full-cycle recruitment including job posting, screening, interviewing, and selection.
Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and improve hiring processes.
Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure new employees are integrated effectively.
Employee Relations
Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and conflict resolution.
Conduct investigations related to workplace issues and recommend appropriate actions.
Foster a positive work culture focused on engagement, communication, and accountability.
HR Compliance
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Maintain employee files and HR documentation in accordance with legal and company requirements.
Develop and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook.
Performance Management
Manage annual review processes, goal-setting, and employee development programs.
Coach managers on performance improvement and corrective action strategies.
Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
Benefits & Compensation
Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, leaves of absence, and 401(k).
Assist with open enrollment, employee education, and vendor communication.
Support compensation analysis and salary benchmarking to ensure competitiveness.
HR Operations
Prepare HR reports and metrics to support leadership decision-making.
Oversee timekeeping, payroll coordination, and attendance management as needed.
Lead or support HR-related projects, process improvements and company events.
Payroll Operations
Oversee and supervise the Payroll Staff.
Ensuring all payroll-related tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
Provide guidance, training, support and reviewing the Payroll Staff’s work for accuracy, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable wage and hour regulations.
Review and approve timesheets and time off requests.
Monitor workflow, address issue or discrepancies, and support continuous improvement in payroll process.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must possess the ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
Advanced Microsoft office skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
Detail oriented, strong analytical skills, ability to detect inconsistencies in data, and ability to work with minimal supervision
Proficient in bookkeeping NetSuite software, spreadsheets and related Office software
Experience in using Paylocity payroll, time and attendance system
Experience in using EASE benefit integration system
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
High level of integrity and trustworthiness
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to meet tight deadline
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s or HR certification preferred).
5+ years of progressive HR experience; leadership experience a plus.
Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Proficient in HRIS systems (Paylocity) and Microsoft Office Suite.
