Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Payload and Ground Systems Division (PGSD) is seeking multiple Embedded Operating System Software Developers with the desire to learn new technologies to join the Remote Sensing Programs (RSP) Business unit Software team in Linthicum, MD. You’ll help develop, enhance, and maintain software on cutting‑edge space products and systems. The Operating Systems Software Developer will work on and support sensor command and control (embedded systems) and sensor system test (command of test equipment and emulation) for a variety of Space platforms. Selected individuals will work on an agile development team, primarily using C, C++, Python, and scripting in a Yocto build environment. The individual will work through all phases of the software development cycle including design, development, integration, and test. The selected individual will conduct reviews of software‑related products, software designs, and additional technical documents.
Responsibilities
Active participation in cross‑functional scrum teams.
Design reviews and other reviews as required.
Actively participate in technical peer‑reviews to ensure system/software requirements are met from an end‑to‑end system point of view.
Self‑starter capable of operating efficiently in a team environment, prioritizing tasks and making recommendations to Technical Leads as required.
Basic Qualifications – Embedded Operating Systems Software Developer
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years of related experience, or a Ph.D. with 0 years of experience.
Experience developing in C, C++, and Python.
Required experience with Embedded operating systems.
Knowledge of FPGA VHDL Development and System on a Chip (SOC) hardware.
Experience with Bash and Linux scripting.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI.
Basic Qualifications – Sr. / Principal Embedded Operating System Software Developer
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or Master’s degree with additional years of related experience, or a Ph.D. with 3 years of experience.
Experience developing in C, C++, and Python.
Required experience with Embedded operating systems.
Knowledge of FPGA VHDL Development and System on a Chip (SOC) hardware.
Experience with Bash and Linux scripting.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI.
Preferred Qualifications
Active TS/SCI security clearance.
Experience with Linux embedded real‑time OS development (Yocto).
Experience with Microcontroller environments and development.
Experience with Zephyr development and deployment.
Experience in embedded C++ optimizations.
Experience with embedded processor security.
Hands‑on hardware testing experience.
Ability to debug complex integrated applications or test setup issues.
Experience with network topology.
Experience developing in a hybrid Linux/Windows environment.
Experience as a member of an Agile Scrum team.
Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
Compensation and Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $105,400 – $158,000. Secondary Level Salary Range: $131,100 – $196,700. The above range is a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers numerous factors when determining base salary offers such as scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. VP or Director positions may be eligible for Long‑Term Incentives. Benefits include health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation and personal business.
