Essential Job Functions
Performs annual system security reviews.
Manages Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) entries and ensures vulnerabilities are properly tracked, mitigated, and resolved.
Plans and performs cybersecurity testing to assess security controls and record security control compliance status.
Conducts vulnerability and compliance management and scanning in support of continuous monitoring efforts.
Required Skills
U.S. Citizenship is required.
High school diploma with a minimum of 20 years of experience, an Associate degree plus 14 years or a Bachelors degree plus 12 years of experience.
Active Top Secret security clearance with eligibility for SCI access.
5 years’ specific experience analyzing and securing DoD or information technology systems for compliance with Cyber Security policies and requirements.
Experience researching, assessing and performing continuous monitoring under the RMF process in accordance with DoD 8510.01 and NIST Publications.
Current IAT Level II or Level III designation in accordance with DoD 8570.01 including professional certifications.
Familiarity with the DISA Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) and Xactta applications as used to develop, manage and track IA artifacts.
Familiarity with security control selection, implementation and assessment processes as they relate to preparing and reviewing/monitoring RMF packages.
Current experience designing and executing cybersecurity testing to assess security controls compliance.
Proficiency in the use of the MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Visio) and other tools to document a system from an IA perspective.
Desired Skills
Bachelor’s (BS/BA) degree.
Appointment as a Navy Qualified Validator (Level II) highly desired.
Familiarity with Naval Combat Systems and Platform IT.
The system security engineer utilizes in-depth understanding and experience in current DoD Risk Management Framework, Platform IT (PIT), and the implementation of Cyber Security and IA boundary defense techniques and various IA-enabled appliances to conduct current system reauthorization tasks and perform initial authorizations for new systems under development.
