Job Summary and Responsibilities Coding Integrity Specialist (CIS) III
reviews and evaluates hospital inpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit and/or validate ICD‑10‑CM and ICD‑10‑PCS codes. The role also performs code/DRG validation across multiple entities and adheres to all coding guidelines and company policies.
Assign, sequence, validate, and edit codes/DRGs and abstracted data for inpatient records at multiple facilities using ICD‑10‑CM and ICD‑10‑PCS.
Provide diagnosis description with appropriate 3‑7 digit code and Present On Admission (POA).
Provide procedure description with appropriate 7‑digit ICD‑10‑PCS code, date and surgeon.
Determine admitting diagnosis and discharge disposition.
Complete the coding portion of the IRF‑PAI when applicable.
Maintain or exceed established accuracy and productivity standards.
Utilize complete patient medical record documentation in coding decisions.
Initiate, review, or edit physician queries in compliance with company policy.
Periodically perform Coding Account Resolution Specialist III (CARS III) duties as needed.
Review data quality standards, coding guidelines, company policies, and clinical resources to keep coding knowledge current.
Follow all applicable coding guidance and company policies.
Meet all educational requirements stated in company policy.
Adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and the “Mission and Value Statement.”
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate or GED equivalent (preferred: associate or bachelor’s degree in HIM/HIT).
Minimum 1 year of acute‑care hospital inpatient coding experience (3 years preferred).
RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred.
