The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry is recruiting Forestry Technicians – Advanced for multiple locations across the state. These technicians perform fire management activities, operate specialized forest fire equipment, and support forest management programs. Locations

Webster Ranger Station – Burnett County Florence Service Center – Florence County Mellen Ranger Station – Ashland County Woodruff Ranger Station – Oneida County Trout Lake/NHAL – Vilas County Responsibilities

Forestry Technicians are responsible for: Fire suppression, pre‑suppression, and prevention activities. Operation of certified forest fire equipment (tractor/plows, bulldozers, engines). Issuing permits and implementing forest fire prevention projects. Fire inspections and assistance with all aspects of the forest management program, including forest reconnaissance, timber sale establishment, reforestation, forest road development, and property management. Qualifications

Required: Valid driver’s license and eligibility to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License. Experience operating at least one of the following: tractor (30 hp+), dozer, skid steer, logging equipment, backhoe, excavator, or fire engine (Types 1‑6). Natural resources experience, education, or training that includes field surveying, data collection, and knowledge of prescribed fire behavior. Preferred: An Associate’s Degree or higher in a natural resources‑related field. Experience with prescribed burns, timber marking, forest regeneration assessment, or silviculture. Wildland fire qualifications at FFT1 or higher, ICT5 or higher, or prescribed fire qualification at RXB2 or higher. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A), ASE certification, or completion of Operation Engineers Apprenticeship or equivalent training. Salary and Benefits
