Microchip Technology Incorporated (“Microchip”) is seeking an experienced Patent Paralegal to help administer our growing patent portfolio. Microchip is a leading provider of smart, connected, and secure embedded control solutions, serving over 120,000 customers across various markets, including industrial, automotive, consumer, aerospace, defense, communications, and computing. Key Responsibilities
Update and maintain Microchip’s electronic patent docketing database (Anaqua).
Review and track incoming correspondence from outside counsel.
Communicate with outside counsel and staff on patent application preparation, filing, and prosecution matters.
Liaise with inventors throughout the patent prosecution process, including approval and filing of draft patent applications, proposed responses to office actions, and recommendations to file continuing applications.
Track deadlines for pending patent applications and issued patents, including relevant milestones at allowance of claims and renewal fee windows.
Instruct outside counsel and vendors regarding payment or non-payment of issue fees and maintenance fees.
Generate various reports from the patent docketing database as requested.
Process emails and requests received by the Legal Department.
Support IP transactions, including but not limited to gathering and recording necessary assignment documents and importing relevant data into the docketing database.
Process invoices related to patent activity.
Administer Microchip’s patent awards program.
Perform other duties as assigned by Microchip’s General Counsel and IP Counsel.
Requirements / Qualifications
Experience with patent docketing software (Anaqua preferred).
Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently.
Proficiency in writing and proofreading for contextual, grammatical, and typographical errors.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with attorneys, staff, and inventors.
Improvement and process‑oriented mindset.
Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), patent docketing database software, and video conferencing tools (Webex and Teams preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree; excellent academic credentials highly desirable.
At least 7 years of experience with patent docketing and prosecution support.
US, Foreign, and PCT filing experience.
In‑house experience.
Litigation support experience.
Travel Time 0% - 25%
