Summary/Objectives The Commercial Portfolio Manager supports the commercial loan and deposit portfolio of one or more Relationship Managers (Commercial with some CRE) providing quality underwriting, sound portfolio management and superior client service.

Essential Functions

Analyzes financial information to evaluate the creditworthiness of new loan requests, renewal loan requests and ongoing portfolio management activities within the parameters of the Bank’s policies and procedures.

Completes industry research, as needed, supporting existing and new customers to the Bank.

Compiles commercial loan packages (non‑BL and BLE) ensuring completeness and accuracy of information. The package includes a written credit memo, financial analysis of the borrower, guarantors and proposed transaction, risk assessment, grading and recommendation.

Completes additional credit analysis through in‑depth tools such as CRE analysis tools outside traditional spreads and global cash flow.

Guides the loan request through the Credit Approval Process, ensuring structure meets client needs and bank objectives.

Ensures large commercial loan relationships comply with State and Federal regulations and bank policies.

Monitors and services large commercial loan portfolios, performing covenant testing, annual servicing reviews and exception clearing.

Grades risk of each loan, recommends adjustments as circumstances change.

Assists Relationship Manager in credit presentations to Credit Administration and other committees.

Ensures all required documentation is in file and clears compliance deficiencies noted by Loan Operations or other reviews.

Periodically accompanies the Relationship Manager on calls with existing and prospective customers.

Builds positive working relationships with internal partners (Loan Operations, Credit Administrators, etc.) and external partners (attorneys, appraisers, developers).

Undertakes special projects as determined by Credit Administration Leadership.

Continuously updates skills through professional training and cross‑training opportunities.

Works with the Relationship Manager, Credit Administrators and Loan Assistant to minimize past‑due loans.

Serves as a trusted advisor to clients and prospects within risk management context.

Demonstrates commitment to fair lending practices and remains knowledgeable of all relevant laws and regulations.

Supports compliance with BSA, AML, CIP, OFAC and other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications And Education Requirements Education:

Four‑year degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field; graduation from a recognized school of banking is an asset or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Minimum of 4‑6 years in credit analysis, commercial banking, business banking with at least 2 years of specific portfolio management or underwriting experience supporting Middle Market. Familiarity with loan structuring and documentation is required.

Knowledge:

Accounting and lending principles; excellent oral and written communication; in‑depth knowledge of Federal and State lending regulations and bank policies related to lending procedures.

Training Requirements/Classes

South State Bank credit policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.

Annual regulatory and compliance training.

Recommended Additional Training

Additional training may be required as needed.

Supervisory Responsibility None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports.
