AIRPORT OPERATIONS MANAGER Department of Aviation, California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport.

Location: McKinleyville, California (California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport). Employees will travel to other county airports.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (1‑hour lunch).

Responsibilities

Oversee daily airport operations and facilities maintenance, including airside and landside infrastructure, safety, security, and regulatory compliance (FAA/TSA).

Manage and supervise airport operations and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and discipline.

Administer airport leases, contracts, and property use, including developing agreements, monitoring compliance, recommending rental rates, and coordinating tenant improvements.

Assist the Director of Aviation with policy development, operational improvements, interagency coordination, and long‑range airport planning.

Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Bachelor’s degree in aviation, public administration, management, facilities/construction management, or a closely related field.

Three (3) years of responsible experience in airport operations at a Part 139 Airport, with responsibility for FAR Part 139 compliance; experience in contracts, budgeting, and employee supervision preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid U.S. driver’s license at time of application. Must obtain California driver’s license after hire.

Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) or Certified Member (C.M.) of the American Association of Airport Executives desirable but not required.

Physical Demands

Office environment:

Standard office work, computer use, motor vehicle operation, occasional standing, walking, light lifting (up to 10 lbs).

Vision, hearing, speech, and finger dexterity required.

Field work:

Ability to lift, carry up to 50 lbs with proper equipment; light to medium physical work, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and driving.

Vision to inspect conditions, exposure to elements and hazards.
