TITLE:
Manager, Echo Park Farmers’ Market
STATUS:
Part-time, non-exempt (hourly)
REPORTS TO:
Senior Manager, Northeast LA Farmers’ Markets
LOCATION:
Hybrid: Telecommuting + On-Site at Farmers’ Markets + Office (one day/week)
COMPENSATION:
$25/hr DOE
BENEFIT:

SCHEDULE:
28 hours/week, flexible schedule; must work Friday 12:30 PM – 9 PM and attend team meetings on Tuesdays
Summary of Responsibilities Each Market Manager oversees day‑to‑day operations of the assigned market, including recruitment and retention of farmers/vendors, social media marketing, communications with stakeholders, and coordination of activities and programs under the direction of the Senior Manager, Northeast LA Farmers’ Markets.
Market Operations (Friday 12:30 PM–3:30 PM)
Lead regulation and compliance: enforce Food Access LA rules and other relevant laws (Direct Marketing, California Retail Food Code, etc.)
Communicate market policies, activities, and rules to all vendors
Collaborate with onsite security to resolve and deescalate emergencies, complaints, and requests from vendors, customers, and community partners
Oversee vendor stall placement
Supervise market staff for day‑to‑day tasks:
Physical set‑up and take‑down of market
Maintain market grounds
Distribute Load Lists, market memos, and other correspondence to vendors
Manage market supply inventory and storage space
Operate information booth and sell market/ Food Access LA merchandise as needed
Ensure site cleanliness after market close and vendor departure
Facilitate market administration:
Confirm vendor paperwork completion and stall fee payment each market day
Update social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) with market news, vendor updates, and seasonal finds
Support special events (food demos, cultural celebrations, book signings, etc.)
Organize and maintain weekly market supplies
Office / Work From Home (2.5 weekdays)
Manage weekly market accounting and reconciliation (in office required)
Process all load lists, reconcile cash, check, EBT, Market Match, and WIC payments
Complete weekly market day sales and redemption reports
Maintain vendor files and administrative tasks as needed
Coordinate with Food Access LA’s Senior Manager to secure permits for Certified Farmers’ Market operation
Collaborate with state and federal agencies to ensure vendor compliance
Develop digital and print promotional materials; promote the market on social media and community outreach (schools, businesses, churches, etc.)
Organize market events and programming (book signings, food demos, etc.)
Interface with community leaders, elected officials, and stakeholders
Participate in Food Access LA initiatives: meet with Senior Manager, attend monthly Market Manager meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions as required
Assume fundraising and grant acquisition support when needed
Qualifications Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience (retail, customer service, non‑profit programming, event planning, community organizing, etc.)
Working knowledge of basic business and food retail operations; experience with small‑business owners or ownership experience preferred
Experience executing communications and community outreach strategies
Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines
Independent, organized, detail‑oriented
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, social media apps, and related technology platforms
Comfortable handling cash
Must be available to work Tuesdays and Fridays
Desired Skills and Experience:
Strong preference for English and Spanish speaking, reading, and writing
Community‑centered work experience in and around Echo Park
Prior experience at a Certified Farmers’ Market (vendor, management, or staff)
Experience working with underserved, low‑income communities with awareness and integrity
Knowledge of compliance standards and protocols related to agriculture, public health, and other agencies

Physical Demand and Work Environment Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, use hands and fingers on a computer and telephone keyboard; reach, stoop, and kneel to install equipment. Work is mainly indoors but may be outdoors in varying weather conditions.
