KL&A is seeking a Project Manager to help shape a more sustainable built environment—advancing the role of structural engineers in reducing embodied carbon while driving innovation, collaboration, and impact.

As part of our Team Carbon, this position blends technical depth, environmental purpose, and strategic influence. This Project Manager will play a key role in marketing and business development, strengthening partnerships, and supporting projects through carbon education and advocacy internally and across the AEC industry. Beyond advancing our low‑carbon initiatives, this role offers the opportunity to continue hands‑on design work on diverse engineering projects, ensuring a dynamic balance between technical practice and sustainability leadership.

KL&A is seeking a Project Manager to advance the role of structural engineers in reducing embodied carbon across the built environment. This position blends technical depth with environmental purpose, shaping structures that are as responsible as they are resilient.

We are seeking a Project Manager for our Team Carbon, a group of dedicated engineers focused on supporting engineering and construction projects at KL&A. This unique role bridges engineering and sustainability, helping broaden our integrated services, streamline workflows, and deepen relationships with our strategic industry partners.

Our services include:

Embodied Carbon Impact Reports and Structural LCA

Material salvage and deconstruction consulting

Stockpile management of reclaimed steel and timber

Mass timber and regional forest‑to‑market design strategies

Embodied carbon education for clients and collaborators

Responsibilities:

Lead integrated structural and construction projects from concept through construction

Identify and implement early‑stage carbon‑reduction opportunities

Coordinate with contractors and suppliers on specifications, mix designs, and GWP targets

Partner with architects and owners to embed sustainability goals into structural decisions

Develop and deliver embodied‑carbon education for clients and peers

Mentor team members to strengthen technical mastery and climate literacy

Represent KL&A through a doer/seller model that emphasizes genuine client relationships and follow‑through

Utilize engineering expertise while influencing and supporting projects through design, management, and training staff

Qualifications:

ABET accredited degree in Structural or Architectural Engineering

Minimum of 8? years of design experience with 1-2 years of project management with various building types

Strong leadership and communication skills

Deep understanding of building codes and a creative approach to problem solving

Technical report writing skills

Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam

Experience with diverse structural materials and project scales

Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship, both presently and in the future

Needs entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

Bonus Qualifications:

Experience with existing buildings, including:

Deconstruction planning

Experience with EPDs, Whole‑Building LCA, and TallyLCA

Familiarity with Buy Clean Colorado, Denver Green Code, and Boulder Green Code

Public speaking or client‑education experience

LEED or ILFI accreditation

Compensation:

Salary: $106,000 - $120,000 per year

Bonuses are awarded at discretion, not guaranteed
