Responsibilities
Manage professional staff responsible for design and project construction
Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure the project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget
Assist subordinate supervisors in maintaining production on budget and schedule
Review project estimate or plan to determine schedule, estimated job cost, and procedures for accomplishing the project and allocate resources to various phases
Understand project documents and identify completeness or inadequacies
Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead‑time to avoid delays in production
Establish work plan and staffing for each project phase and work closely with Human Resources in recruitment efforts as necessary
Oversee coordination with project staff to outline work plans, assign duties, and define scope of authority
Review status, modify schedules or plans as required, and prepare project reports for management, owners, and subcontractors
Follow up on directives to remain alert for situations that are not progressing productively and to seize opportunities to improve project performance
Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems
Work closely with company employees, project supervisors, owners, external teams, and support people to secure commitments regarding managerial and supervisory requests
Provide positive safety leadership to the project and review field operations to ensure a safe workplace
Coordinate the preparation and updating of the formal project construction schedule as required by the contract documents
Coordinate resource use with the project superintendent, including crew sizes and project layout for offices, traffic flow, and material storage
Manage claims documentation and coordinate material purchases, ensuring subcontractor agreements are prepared and change orders are accurate
Develop and maintain business relationships and manage subcontractor, client/owner, engineer, JV partner(s), and union relationships as applicable
Maintain relationships with contracting agencies and executive management
Participate in project presentations to elected officials, the general public, and other stakeholders
Responsible for project closeout; secure loose ends by finishing paperwork, obtaining retainages, supporting supervisors, and expediting claims
Debrief the project after completion to review positive and negative aspects
Confidently negotiate any and all matters on behalf of the project related to cost, schedule, and contract matters with owners and subcontractors
Cost manage the project and follow/ enforce environmental policies required by the owner/agency
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in project management within a construction or engineering firm
Heavy civil experience, including highways and bridges
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited four‑year college or university; Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred
Federal, State, and Local knowledge and experience
Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Primavera P6 Scheduling Software is a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills
