Position Summary Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the

Packaging Buyer

is responsible for ensuring the appropriate level of packaging materials to support manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in supplier management, cost control, sourcing new materials, and cross‑functional collaboration to support production efficiency and business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials and place purchase orders aligned with production forecasts and company standards

Source new packaging materials as needed; support bid requests and assist with price negotiations

Evaluate supplier performance related to pricing, service, and delivery

Build and maintain strong supplier relationships; consolidate vendors where appropriate

Coordinate closely with Production, Marketing, and other departments to ensure correct materials are available at the right time and location

Support new packaging initiatives including size, design, and specification changes

Maintain accurate vendor files including pricing, specifications, lead times, and service levels

Execute approved purchase contracts and inventory transfers

Monitor market conditions that may impact packaging costs and report findings as needed

Provide backup support for other buyers to ensure uninterrupted procurement operations

Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

Ability to collaborate across departments in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

Knowledge of or willingness to learn food labeling laws

Organized, detail‑oriented, and proactive problem solver

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred but not required

3–5 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or procurement

Experience supporting a manufacturing environment required

Experience in food manufacturing strongly preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Office-based role within a food manufacturing environment

Moderate noise level

Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods

Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
