Department The Department of Public Works is dedicated to providing the highest quality public works services to the residents and businesses of Santa Clara, the development community, and our customers in a responsible and efficient manner.

The Department designs, constructs, maintains, and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure and provides quality, cost-effective, timely services. It undertakes programs throughout the City including design, construction management, development review, encroachment permitting, traffic engineering, stormwater pollution prevention, inspections, and maintenance of streets, bridges, storm drain systems, traffic signal systems, building facilities, street trees, and landscaping.

Position The Building Maintenance Worker within the Facilities division performs modifications to City‑owned facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, plumbing, carpentry, painting, lighting, minor electrical work, general repairs, and other building trade aspects. The Division emphasizes preventative maintenance in addition to work orders and projects. The successful incumbent should have experience with lighting repairs and replacements, including ballasts, switches, light bulbs, and the use of ladders and lifts. Safety and employee satisfaction are primary goals.

Salary The annual salary range for this position is $97,623.36 - $124,204.20. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.

Education and Experience Minimum Education Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Four (4) years of experience in the building construction trades, preferably in the maintenance of occupied buildings.

Acceptable Substitution:

None.

License/Certification Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver’s license is required.

Other Requirements Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job assignment.

Special Conditions Incumbents may be required to work on a shift basis, a staggered work week, and may be required to work unusual hours in emergency situations.
