Job Summary The Dispatch Manager is responsible for the successful execution of customer freight delivery and the daily oversight and management of their assigned fleet. This leadership position reports to the Operations Manager or the Terminal Manager and participates in problem identification, solution recognition, and system implementation to improve driver experience and service quality. The Dispatch Manager fosters a culture that aligns team work with the company’s mission and core values.

Supervisory Responsibilities Direct and indirect reports: Professional Drivers.

Schedule Monday‑Friday 8 am‑6 pm.

Job Duties Driver & Terminal Connect

Effectively dispatch a fleet using proper procedures for real‑time management of freight and drivers, ensuring a high level of data accuracy within the system.

Maintain excellent driver relationships and satisfaction for new and tenured drivers.

Actively onboard new drivers following the 12‑week onboarding process.

Regularly review driver scorecards to ensure performance and income goals are met.

Audit driver manifests for pay accuracy and workload balance.

Advocate for drivers in relation to executable plans.

Effectively communicate policy changes, schedule changes, etc. to the fleet.

Participate in driver mentoring and appreciation activities as prescribed by the Terminal Manager.

Oversee the fleet to ensure all team members are properly trained in all aspects of their position; coach where performance improvement is needed, and notify management for corrective action or formal performance improvement plans.

Participate in pre‑trip inspections with drivers on a regular basis.

Coach and counsel the fleet in productivity, customer care and service, attendance, and company rules; develop performance improvement plans in coordination with HR and the Terminal Manager as needed.

Confirm driver plans with drivers (via Qualcomm and/or phone) providing required information for assignments, including special load requirements (Hazmat, specialty equipment, etc.).

Safety Connect

Promote a culture of safety in all daily activities by proactively addressing safety concerns and communicating safety goals and standards to all drivers.

Ensure fleet compliance with DOT hours‑of‑service and driver fitness before dispatch.

Assist in scheduling physicals and submitting required documentation.

Customer Connect

Monitor driver progress to ensure on‑time freight dispatch and delivery; address and notify customers of any delays or issues.

Address all customer needs and concerns during shifts, escalating issues to Operations or Terminal Manager as appropriate.

Collect and inspect driver manifests, bills of lading, and lumper receipts to pay drivers and invoice customers upon shift completion.

Maintenance Assessorial Connect

Maintain, track, and report equipment levels daily at all customer locations; request adjustments as needed.

Perform periodic inspections of company equipment to identify unreported maintenance issues and accident damage.

Review revenue per truck per day and conduct quarterly fleet performance reviews to identify opportunities and develop improvement plans.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred or substituted with 4 years of similar experience.

At least 2 years of dispatching CDL Class A truck drivers.

Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office.

TMS experience desired; TMW preferred.

Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and related safety regulations.

Excellent customer service, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.

Ability to develop a working knowledge of all terminal operation aspects.

Travel may be required as dictated by customer/business.

Physically capable of sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, operating a computer keyboard, and speaking on the telephone; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
