Description Volunteers of America, Utah (VOA Utah) is part of a national, nonprofit, faith‑based human services organization that provides community‑supported pathways for those who are vulnerable to improve their lives and increase their self‑reliance. VOA Utah encourages individuals with lived experience to apply.
The Geraldine E. King Women’s Resource Center meets the distinctive needs of women experiencing homelessness by providing shelter, case management, life skills training, and connection to community services. The House 20 Team will serve 20 high‑utilizer clients, providing outreach, engagement, and support as they move toward housing. Outcomes include 3–5 placements into permanent supportive housing and stabilization of high‑barrier individuals.
Essential Duties
Assist clients in developing service plans to overcome homelessness and identify barriers to housing.
Proactive engagement and rapport‑building; case management services for housing, medical care, and benefit acquisition.
Provide behavioral health support, including connecting to therapy and crisis planning. Certified peer support services to assist individuals in life skills and community building.
Participate in regular case reviews to ensure appropriate planning and referral of clients to the most appropriate service provider.
Deliver direct trauma‑informed case management services, including crisis intervention, outreach, ongoing assessments, goal setting, problem solving, and resource utilization.
Identify priority needs (e.g., pregnant, IV/IM drug user, dual diagnosis, medical conditions) and coordinate services as needed.
Attend weekly staff/clinical meetings and other assigned meetings.
Use de‑escalation skills and trauma‑informed practices to resolve conflicts and respond to safety emergencies following policies and procedures.
Maintain records, case notes, and statistical data as required; participate in research or special projects.
Use agency vehicles to provide transportation when needed.
Attend work on a punctual, regular, and predictable basis; work is performed on‑site to provide direct client care.
Requirements Qualifications A degree in social services and at least two years of experience in the social services field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides knowledge, skills, and abilities related to case management.
Skills
Must qualify for and pass Utah Department of Human Services Case Management Certification within 60 days of hiring.
GED or high school diploma required for Utah Case Management Certification.
Familiarity with Trauma‑Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, and Housing First philosophies; willing to incorporate them in daily work.
Uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, and interact professionally with diverse workforce, clients, and public.
Communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism and compassion.
Utilize trauma‑informed practices to make sound decisions within position scope and seek supervision for major situations.
Accept supervision and direction; be a team player with strong interpersonal skills; dependable, reliable, self‑starter, and self‑directed.
Move around the facility and interact with clients for extended periods.
Driving required: at least 21 years old, current driver’s license, good driving record, and insurable on agency liability policy.
Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
Physical Demands
Work is generally performed in an office environment.
Requires using a computer for extended periods of time.
