Reporting to: IT Manager

Department: Information Technology

JOB SUMMARY The System Administrator is responsible for the realization of architecture strategy through the design of complex applications, which are founded on both industry and corporate standards. The System Administrator is also a contributor to CPSS enterprise architecture strategy.

The System Administrator works with other teams to provide technical guidance and to foster overall alignment with CPSS enterprise architecture and industry best practices. This role collaborates with Project Managers, External Vendors, IT Leadership, other administrators, and various technical team members throughout IT to develop solutions to complex business application needs and deliver, implement, and train other teams on the solutions.

This individual will possess communication and technical skills along with practical experience in multiple areas within their discipline (i.e. Web, Databases or Security). The System Administrator is expected to resolve large and complex problems, challenges and issues that cross multiple teams and business units. The System Administrator is expected to serve as a subject matter expert in several areas within their architectural discipline (i.e. Applications, Data or Integrations).

RESPONSIBILITIES Gathering, Design and Implementation (50%)

Leads the development of road maps describing evolution of application technologies from current to future state.

Leads the collaboration of requirement gathering and technology selection.

Leads application projects. Completes the successful execution of project activities replanning the infrastructure based on changing organizational requirements.

Participates in the design of information and operational application support systems.

Configures various integrations, services, and applications.

Administers internal and external web and database backup processes. Implements backups and develops restore procedures.

Applies security patches and updates the applications of the infrastructure, such as host, servers, web, databases, and applications.

Performs analysis of current application environments to identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement; recommends solutions.

Implements the applications for maximum efficiency and evaluates quality and capacity to increase or decrease infrastructure capacity.

Process and Support (30%)

Provides highest tier level of web, database and application support acting as an escalation point for issues.

Reviews application monitoring and alert data and responds to incidents.

Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures and documentation.

Performs routine maintenance and upgrades on systems and software.

Performs daily application system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

Day‑to‑day administration of the application and WAN infrastructure.

Consults with vendors and other CPSS IT personnel for problem resolution.

Works on complex incidents, performs troubleshooting, administers repairs. Drives team to meet team SLAs.

Technology Innovation (10%)

Seeks opportunity to automate, simplify and consolidate application platforms and processes.

Writes and maintains custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.

Actively participates in and assists with vendor contract negotiations for areas of technology expertise.

Stays abreast of technology trends as well as how it pertains specifically to CPSS.

Assists with strategy/roadmap and identifies and recommends new technology solutions to meet business needs.

Peer Leadership (10%)

Actively coaches application engineers, providing feedback, as necessary.

Is an SME for key areas of expertise and drives key projects or ongoing operational functions.

Drives meeting agendas and expectations for administration touchpoint meetings with IT leadership.

Required

Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related subject, Certifications, or equivalent application, web and database systems administration experience.

5+ years within IT administration.

5+ years’ experience in both design and operational support across 2 or more of the key infrastructure silos (Network, Storage, Compute, Security, Virtualization, Cloud, Web or Database systems).

Excellent analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to adhere to risk management, change management, and configuration management policy, standards, procedures and guidelines.

Ability to provide objective and impartial technology, platform, tooling assessments and recommendations, always ensures compatibility with strategic technology backlog.

Passionate about technology, and have an interest in emerging tools, trends and techniques across the industry.

Possesses or displays the ability to learn multiple technologies and systems.

Professional experience demonstrating the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees and contractors, to prepare reports and to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

Preferred Experience in areas of systems/security preferred: Multiple site Implementations, MS Windows Servers, Active Directory and services including DHCP & DNS. Web Servers, IIS, Certificate Management, Database Servers, MS SQL Server, SSRS, Enterprise Print Services, Enterprise Applications, Procede–Excede, ProcedeIntegrations (Doc Delivery, OE Connection, Arcadium, Salesforce, Decisiv, WheelTime, BillTrust & Vertex) Epicor and Autodesk.
