The

Business Development Specialist

plays a critical role in advancing SBBCC’s growth strategy. This position is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, strengthening client and partner relationships, leading pursuit efforts, and supporting corporate marketing initiatives. The role requires a proactive, relationship-driven professional who can balance strategy, technical knowledge, and communication skills to successfully position SBBCC in a competitive marketplace. Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Engagement

Proactively identify, develop, and maintain relationships with clients, industry partners, and small/disadvantaged businesses. Represent SBBCC at industry events, pre-bid meetings, and community functions. Collaborate with estimating, preconstruction, and operations teams to support pursuit strategies. Maintain opportunity/pursuit logs and provide feedback on won/lost opportunities to strengthen future pursuits. Lead project pursuit efforts including RFQs, RFPs, interviews, and client presentations. Ensure pursuit responses are complete, timely, accurate, and aligned with client expectations. Research prospective clients and market sectors; translate findings into pursuit strategies. Develop clear, persuasive messaging for proposals, presentations, and marketing collateral. Corporate & Strategic Planning

Align business development efforts with SBBCC’s annual corporate business plan and market sector plans. Support leadership with market research, forecasting, and pursuit cost analysis. Contribute to long‑term planning for targeted markets and corporate growth. Champion SBBCC’s culture, core values, and reputation in every engagement. Mentor and coach staff to develop their business development and client service skills. Promote safety, collaboration, and high standards of quality in all activities. Qualifications

10–15 years of progressive experience in business development or project acquisition, preferably in the A/E/C industry. Experience with Design‑Bid‑Build, CM‑at‑Risk, PPEA and Design‑Build delivery methods. Strong knowledge of construction markets such as multi‑family, government, healthcare, education, life sciences, and commercial. Proven ability to lead pursuits, develop proposals, and build client relationships. Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and PDF editing software (Bluebeam preferred). Understanding of sustainability trends (NetZero, Passive House, Carbon Neutral, etc.) a plus. Commitment to teamwork, integrity, and client service.
