Adjunct Instructor - Manufacturing Operations Fox Valley Technical College

Fox Valley Technical College is hiring an Adjunct Instructor – Manufacturing Operations to facilitate student learning and develop instructional strategies that promote student success. The position is part-time, with a typical load of 8.75 hours per week, and requires teaching in hybrid, in‑person, virtual, or online formats.

Job Description Summary Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.

Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning, and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.

Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.

Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.

Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.

Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.

Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field required.

Minimum of two years (4,000 hours) of recent relevant occupational manufacturing experience in quality, industrial, or manufacturing operations within the last five years.

Teaching or training experience is desirable.

Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including the development of relevant curriculum and customized training.

Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.

Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job‑specific licensing standards.

Licenses, Certifications, And Other Requirements

Proficiency utilizing learning management system.

Strong verbal communication skills.

Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.

Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.

Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

Physical Requirements

Mobility: Ability to move around the classroom or instructional space.

Standing and Sitting: Capability to stand for extended periods during lectures or demonstrations, and to sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.

Lifting and Carrying: May need to lift and carry teaching materials, equipment, or props.

Speech and Hearing: Clear speech and the ability to hear students’ questions and interactions.

Fine Motor Skills: Precise hand movements for activities such as writing on a whiteboard or using instructional technology.

Visual Acuity: Adequate vision to read course materials, assess student work, and operate instructional equipment.

Health and Safety: Ability to ensure a safe learning environment and respond to emergencies.

Travel: May be required for off‑site teaching, fieldwork, or professional development.

Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury.

Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment

Work will be completed in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually.

Additional Information Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour. Pay is based on experience, qualifications, education, certifications, internal equity, and market data. Adjunct instructors are hired on a per‑course basis; total hours range from approximately 3 to 8 hours per week. Courses may be scheduled in day, evening, or weekend sessions.
