Job Purpose Inspects first piece, in-process, and finished products for conformance to specifications, dimensional accuracy, quality standards and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Works from and interprets blueprints, routings, control plans, product specifications and quality requirements to determine dimensions and tolerance specifications.

Follows established procedures to verify specified dimensions of product using a variety of standard inspection tools, such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, thread gauges, and dial bore gauges.

Performs gauge calibration of basic measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges and indicators.

Completes gauge setup lists to be used on the production floor.

Performs standard operations on coordinate measuring machines (CMM).

Assists in performing receiving inspection operations, checking conformance to specifications and PO requirements.

Analyzes and rejects defective parts. Identifies the type of defect on the part or container of parts, places the appropriate tag on the part and works with production to administer proper containment.

Accurate completion of all required documentation.

Some familiarity with PPAP layouts and documentation a plus.

Be familiar with the workflow through a manufacturing plant.

Knowledge of the typical quality problems found with each manufacturing operation.

Competencies

Blueprint reading

Use and care of the standard hand measuring tools

The ability to operate manual and automated CMM’s with the potential to write simple and advanced programs

Have a basic understanding of gauge R&R studies and statistical process control charting

Have a basic understanding of Geometric Tolerancing

Know how to convert from metric measure to English measure

Be familiar with ISO-9001 documentation requirements

Requirements

High school Diploma, proficient at high school mathematics, through Trigonometry.

Any training or experience in machine operation, metrology, or mechanical drawing would be a plus.
