Job Summary Under direct supervision of the Streets Supervisor, the purpose of this position is to perform general repair and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, signs, and signals. Employees in this classification perform manual level work, assist in the preparation of work areas, tools, and equipment, and may perform other related functions as assigned.
Salary Range
Technician I (W1): $42,431.01 – $61,526.40 annually ($20.39 – $29.58 hourly)
Technician II (W2): $44,977.43 – $65,218.80 annually ($21.62 – $31.35 hourly)
Technician III (W3): $47,676.50 – $69,132.54 annually ($22.92 – $33.23 hourly)
Technician IV (W4): $50,537.36 – $73,280.88 annually ($24.29 – $35.23 hourly)

Key Responsibilities
Participate in all phases of street, gutter drainage, and alley repair and construction.
Assist in preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
Assist in preparing tools, materials, and equipment necessary for various job assignments.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly.
Makes repairs in pavement, curb, gutter, and sidewalk using epoxy-based chemicals and products with supervision.
Operate simple to moderately complex equipment (concrete vibrator, jack hammer, concrete saw, pavement grinder, and motorized/non-motorized hand tools).
Maintain operational records, schedules, and fill out work orders.
Respond to emergency situations after hours and/or on weekends.
Participate in establishing traffic control devices such as barricades and cones.
Guide traffic flow at work sites.
Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup of special events and meetings throughout the City.
Conduct safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, set up barricades, cones, and road signs, and wear protective gear as indicated for the work assignment.
Assist other City employees during storms and national disasters.
Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
When Assigned to Asphalt
Assist with crack seal operations.
Assist with all asphalt finishing hand tools.
Assist with filling potholes with hot mix asphalt.
Assist with pavement reconstruction and repairs.
When Assigned to Concrete
Assist with setting up forms and rebar.
Assist crew members with small hand tools like shovels and concrete rakes.
When Assigned to Drainage
Assist with shooting elevations.
Assist with setting up forms and rebar.
Assist crew members with small hand tools.
Carry small debris from areas like creeks and lakes.

Exercise judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive short-cycle operations covered by set procedures or consequences.
Perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions, such as operating backhoes, motor graders, box blades, rollers, shovels, asphalt rakes, laser instruments, and street saws.
Work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates, and customers with respect.
Build professional relationships with internal staff and customers.
Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change.
Learn the current work order system.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by previous experience and/or training involving street/drainage maintenance or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" commercial driver’s license or be able to obtain one within twelve (12) months of employment.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a drug screen and background check.
Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.
Must obtain the National Incident Management System (NIMS) certificate IS-100 and IS-700 within 6 months of employment.
During storms or natural disasters, staff will be divided into two 12-hour shifts and may be requested to work while on vacation.
Physical Demands Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds) is common; occasionally up to 100 pounds. Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.
Work Environment Limited exposure to environmental conditions. Tasks may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold, or extreme weather conditions.
