Job Summary Functions as a subject matter expert in the policies, processes, and procedures of the clinical laboratory as it relates to patient diagnosis and treatment monitoring, is fully trained in Clinical Laboratory Science and Clinical Pathology, and has the experience in the laboratory performing a wide variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures on all types of blood and body fluids to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of a patient’s disease. Monitors clinical laboratory test orders for appropriateness, medical necessity, and correct test selection.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Provides Clinical Pathology consultation to physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, students, and patients as requested and as needed for test selection and test interpretation. These consultations are both a part of patient care rounding team, upon clinician request, and when deemed medically necessary. Reviews, tracks, and communicates information regarding laboratory utilization trends and root cause of trends. Performs translational research to improve clinical laboratory utilization, service delivery, and patient outcomes. Responsible for development of new testing algorithms and validation of algorithms. Supervises assigned laboratories, creates, and revises policies and procedures. Assists with hosting/coordinating and assures departmental compliance with CAP, GDCH (State), AABB, FDA, JCAHO, OSHA, CLIA, and other inspections as necessary. Available to meet with all inspectors and review all questions and manuals during these inspections and verifies annual review of all policies and procedures. Participates in audits of laboratory operations, documents audit findings, and reports results to the Administrative Director of Pathology Services and the Medical Director of Clinical Pathology. Orients and mentors new staff members. Participates in the education and training of CLS/MLS students, medical students, nursing staff, and new laboratory section employees as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education

Bachelors Medical Science or Doctorate General-Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s) All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) And Certification(s) Specialty Certification in any Laboratory Discipline Upon Hire Required

Required Minimum Experience Minimum 5 years general lab experience Required.

Required Minimum Skills Individual must have extensive organizational skills Basic computer knowledge Appropriate education requirements as defined by GA Rule 290-9-8 for Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Experience in using Cerner, any LIS, Microsoft software, Outlook, Remisol, etc. – preferred.
