Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying products and manufacturing methods that result in high quality and economically competitive products.
Responsibilities
Runs the Work Center Priority report for QCWLD each morning and inspects all that are in bold (ready for inspection) on the report
Inspects welded joints of work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration and conformance with layout, blueprints and work order specifics
Inspects joint for hidden cracks and pits using non-destructive testing methods (e.g. dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspection)
Verifies alignment and dimensions of product and setup of machines and fixtures used for work in progress
Creates and sends NCRs to appropriate departments for nonconformances identified on product in Fabrication. Adds Rework operations in M1 for in-departments NCRs
Observes techniques and performance of welders
Marks defective pieces and recommends scrapping of methods for reworking
Trains QC Tech to perform NDT and weld inspection tasks to cover during absences and periods of high volume
Updates and maintains the “Employee Weld Position Cert Status” form for welders when they pass a new cert test by placing a dot sticker on their individual status form
Demonstrates the Caldwell Company Values in all work activities
Complies with all safety rules and regulations
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Weld certificate from a qualified program or equivalent experience
Level 2 NDT Certificate
One year forklift experience
Minimum 5 years welding experience
Minimum 3 years of weld inspection experience
Ability to earn Caldwell welding certification
Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints
Ability to use tools to accurately assess weld quality
Ability to read a tape measure
Thorough knowledge of AWS D1.1 Standard, particularly Section 6
Computer proficiency sufficient to enter data into an automated system and create inspection documents.
Electrical and hydraulic knowledge a plus
Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to walk and stand. The employee frequently is required to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms bend, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, and push/pull up to 50 pounds. The employee occasionally must lift up to 50 pounds.
