Position Summary The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is recruiting a Research Associate / Data Analyst to work with the Program on Health Workforce Research and Policy. The Data Analyst will support research processes across the Health Professions Data System, Carolina Health Workforce Research Center, and Behavioral Health Workforce Research Center.
Responsibilities
Perform data cleaning and statistical analysis using SAS, Stata, R, Python, and SQL.
Perform descriptive, multivariate, and longitudinal data analysis using licensure data and large secondary population data sources.
Perform geospatial analysis including translating practice addresses to maps and other data visualizations.
Collaborate on the design of research studies including suggesting new methodologies and analyses.
Contribute to writing of study deliverables including co‑authoring journal articles.
Provide quality assurance checks and audits of data reports; identify and propose solutions to data issues and changes.
Collaborate with team and external organizations to troubleshoot dataset issues and clarify data sources.
Communicate issues and findings to investigators and team members, using email, presentations, data visualizations, etc.
Manage project timelines, deliverables, and completion of required project objectives.
Work with interdisciplinary team to improve and maintain data systems to manage and compile datasets.
Communicate and explain results to investigators and collaborative team members, including tools/methods such as email/MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS PowerPoint, and verbal presentations when needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post‑Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) plus 3 or more years of relevant experience may be accepted. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Experience in designing analytic research plans, conducting descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses, and conducting geospatial analyses. Proficient in coding and analysis software tools such as Python, SQL, Stata, R, or SAS.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Experience managing teams, supervising other analysts’ and students’ analyses. Ability to quickly learn new software, possess an analytical mindset for identifying data issues and trends, solve problems, demonstrate data management and documentation experience, and clean and merge data. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, and strong oral, written communication, and presentation skills. Five years of experience in designing analytic research plans, conducting descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses, and conducting geospatial analyses.
