The purpose of the class is to receive, store, and issue materials. The class is responsible for processing and warehousing incoming materials, maintaining inventories, issuing materials, maintaining security, maintaining the warehouse, and keeping records. Records are kept using a computerized inventory system. The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.

Responsibilities

Processes materials into warehouse following established procedures; compares received materials with invoices, shipping documents, or other to verify shipment.

Stores materials within warehouse in accordance with operating procedures and to facilitate inventory and issue.

Processes requisitions or other requests for materials, issues materials, and prepares appropriate issue documents.

Uses a computerized online inventory system to process all orders, issues, and inventories.

Performs periodic or special inventories to confirm quantities of materials on hand and compares to inventory records.

Maintains warehouse facility and surrounding areas; performs maintenance and upkeep and reports maintenance, security, or safety problems to supervisor. This includes maintaining the outside yard area.

Performs routine office tasks, such as typing, filing, faxing, phoning, and copying.

Attends meetings to exchange information; attends in-service training to improve skills.

Receives and processes surplus equipment, property and equipment. Surplus items are listed on an online auction site by warehouse personnel as directed. Personnel coordinate pick-ups with successful buyers.

Employee shall be available to report to work on an ‘on‑call’ basis using a set schedule for all warehouse employees.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED.

Two years of general warehouse and inventory experience, or similar work, is preferred.

Knowledge of Windows based software programs, data entry, and problem solving and multitasking. Basic mathematical and reasoning skills required. Prior experience using a computer-based inventory system preferred.

Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklift, carts, dollies, and pallet jacks is required.

Obtaining a City of Leesburg forklift certification shall be required within 3 days of being hired.

Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
