Overview The HVAC & Energy Systems Technical Manager reports to the Director of Facilities Maintenance Operations and is responsible for analyzing equipment performance, identifying and implementing operational and energy efficiency improvements, and troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical circuits.

Responsibilities

Analyze equipment performance and implement operational and energy efficiency improvements.

Coordinate with the Building Maintenance Manager to provide direct supervision and daily oversight of HVAC, mechanical, and climate control contractors, while maintaining close collaboration with faculty, staff, and trades specialists.

Manage contractor maintenance and repair activities related to HVAC mechanical, Energy Management Systems (EMS), and BAS.

Provide expertise in troubleshooting direct digital HVAC/EMS climate controls and work closely with the Director of Facilities Maintenance Operations and the campus engineering department.

Support projects requiring modification of standard methods to address HVAC, mechanical, and EMS climate control needs in the planning, design, renovation, and maintenance of facilities across multi‑campus locations.

Provide and manage technical data related to agency utilities, HVAC maintenance and repairs, and EMS climate controls.

Qualifications

High school diploma and professional experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment.

Experience managing HVAC and climate control systems, including supervising contractors responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs.

Experience managing operational functions, including troubleshooting, analysis, and maintenance of HVAC mechanical systems, building automation systems (BAS), and energy management systems (EMS).

Extensive knowledge of building automation systems and direct digital controls, with strong expertise in maintaining and repairing HVAC and climate control systems.

Proficient in PC‑based energy and maintenance management software and capable of utilizing the MS Office Suite to develop and interpret technical plans, specifications, and reports.

Specialty certifications in HVAC controls highly desired.

24‑hour emergency response availability, including on‑call support on weekends on a rotating basis, and participation before, during, and after severe weather or emergencies which may include working after‑hours and on weekends.

Must communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.

Valid South Carolina Driver’s License required.
