Overview Grand Canyon University’s Brand & Media Project Graduate Assistant assists in overseeing the brand, media(s), and marketing programs serving the office of Student Engagement within Student Affairs. This goal‑oriented position coordinates a team of student workers with a focus on mentorship, creativity, and project management.
Duration and Compensation Graduate Assistants can be a 9‑month or 12‑month role depending on the needs of the business. The department will specify tuition coverage, start date, and anticipated end date. All GA administrative positions share the same compensation rate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate photography projects (promo and recap) from intake to delivery.
Create, manage, and oversee Student Engagement media (print and digital).
Manage and oversee the Student Engagement brand guidelines, approval processes, and brand compliance.
Maintain timelines and task tracking using the project management platform.
Serve as the main point of contact for media‑related project updates and follow‑ups.
Schedule and document meetings, shoots, and content reviews with clients and student workers.
Assign tasks to student workers, ensuring quality and timely execution.
Maintain organized archives of completed photo and media assets.
Track and report on project progress, timelines, and media‑related performance metrics.
Support project deliverable revisions, approvals, and delivery logistics.
Ensure all deliverables align with GCU brand standards.
Help onboard, train, and develop photography student workers.
Research and recommend current media trends and tools to improve creative quality.
Establish, maintain, and meet metrics and goals for media as directed.
Assist the Project Manager with operational needs and campus‑wide initiatives as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities The role coordinates the management of the student worker photography team.
Qualifications
Must be enrolled in a graduate program at Grand Canyon University, preferably in marketing, communications, project management, social media, leadership, business, or a related field, by the start date.
Minimum GPA of 3.0. The admission GPA may be used for newly admitted students; the GPA must be maintained throughout employment.
Graduate assistants must uphold the University’s Student Code of Conduct.
Eligible for tuition waiver during employment; waiver may be taxable income.
Must follow HR employment workflow processes and pass pre‑employment background checks.
Work hours limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week.
After completion of degree requirements, the student is no longer eligible for a graduate assistantship.
“Incomplete” grades must be resolved after the teaching period in which the “I” was recorded.
Graduate assistants are part‑time employees and not eligible for GCU employment benefits except those stipulated by law.
Assistantship may be revoked at any time if duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in leadership, creative services, customer service, marketing/society media, photography, or project coordination preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate across diverse teams and clients.
Ability to manage timelines, follow up on assignments, and lead peers/teams effectively.
Comfortable providing guidance and mentorship to student workers.
Familiarity with project management and social media platforms (Monday.com, Trello, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) highly desirable.
Working knowledge of photography, social media, and Adobe Creative Cloud required.
Professional, dependable, and able to represent the department and university with integrity.
Willingness to work evenings or weekends as needed.
Commitment to upholding the mission and values of Grand Canyon University.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, project management, social media, leadership, business, or a related field preferred.
Prior involvement in campus programs, student affairs, or creative/media‑related work preferred.
Previous leadership or supervisory experience (including student leadership or peer mentoring) is a plus.
Physical Demands Work is primarily performed in an office setting with frequent sitting. Occasionally, work may be performed beyond the office setting and require activities such as lifting up to 25–30 pounds, traveling, and driving. The role requires mental acuity, spatial recognition, and the ability to communicate and listen effectively across multiple platforms. Assumptions may be made to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
