Inventory Specialist

This role provides an hourly pay range of $17.00/hr – $20.00/hr.
Responsibilities
Responsible for executing, monitoring, and training inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including both front end and pharmacy. Supports pharmacy inventory management activities, including receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. Champions On‑Shelf Availability and ensures the accuracy of planograms.
Review and coordinate the proper use of reports and system applications, which impact the accuracy of front end and pharmacy on‑hand balances and pricing.
Execute and maintain front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques; file claims for warehouse and vendor overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods, including prescription drugs.
In designated stores, open and close the store in the absence of management, including required system start‑ups, cash handling and cashier responsibilities, and ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for the business day.
Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. As leader on duty, resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Execute and coach team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes, including creating, reviewing, and receiving orders.
Scan all deliveries while the vendor is still in the store, focusing on One Box receiving; take appropriate action if the product was physically delivered or open tickets for inaccurate orders.
Under the supervision of the pharmacist‑in‑charge, verify all pharmacy shipments and complete postings of all pharmacy warehouse orders, ABC prescription and OTC orders daily, and accurately report any shortages or damaged product.
Complete On‑Shelf Availability (OSA) end‑to‑end process, including warehouse and direct store delivery for planogrammed departments, executing disposals, call‑ins, and vendor returns before expiration.
Complete pharmacy inventory activities including recalls, vendor returns, non‑controlled and damaged salvage returns, excess inventory returns, and interstore pharmacy transfers where applicable.
Execute all pricing activities, including price changes, markdowns, deletes, and ensure accurate signage.
Support front end and pharmacy ordering by ordering expense items and monitoring manual orders to identify excess orders.
Maintain accurate inventory counts and ensure on‑hand quantities are correct in all departments.
Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco.
Assist in the maintenance of inventory records, including receiving and posting of all products, organizing files, and retaining all necessary invoices or return authorizations.
Help prepare for physical inventory and support inventory day activities.
Support keeping all counters and shelves clean and well merchandised.
Assist and coach the store team on package delivery activities, scanning, and daily inventory functions.
When serving as leader on duty, register all sales, handle returns and voids, and provide cash drops to safe.
Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete any additional activities and tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
Attend company‑based trainings and complete all e‑learning modules, including safety training requirements.
Obtain and maintain a valid pharmacy license or certification as required by the state.
Communications
Serve as a liaison between management and team members by coaching and developing other capabilities with inventory systems.
Assume communication responsibilities as leader on duty, reporting disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management.
Basic Qualifications
Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates).
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
“Achieving expectations” rating on last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the previous 12 months (internal candidates only).
Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi‑task and manage execution.
Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending strategies to resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate.
Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.
