Typical Day Work within the Questioned Documents Unit in a fully‑functioning laboratory. All work takes place in the laboratory.
Tasks
Receive and inventory evidence
Process, analyze and examine questioned document evidence according to forensic science discipline and accreditation standards and FLS policies and procedures
Examine, evaluate, and compare questioned and known handwriting for identification or elimination using laboratory conclusion scale
Examine questioned documents and known standards for authentication or determination of alteration.
Examine questioned documents for indented impressions, ink, paper, and printing process determination
Create examination documentation for work performed
Issue forensic laboratory examination reports
Provide expert testimony on work performed
Work under FLS policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in physical or biological sciences, life sciences, chemistry or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by a national or regional accreditation organization recognized and sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Education.
Skills:
Experience working as a document examiner in a forensic laboratory. Familiarity with instrumentation to include: Microscopes; Electrostatic Detection Devises (e.g., Electrostatic Detection Apparatus (ESDA), etc.)
Experience:
1 year working as a document examiner in a forensic laboratory (required).
Shift Information Normal Day shift.
Clearance & U.S. Citizenship Eligible for USPIS clearance and U.S. citizenship is required.
