Our client, a respected and rapidly growing personal injury law firm, is seeking an experienced Appellate Attorney to join its dynamic litigation team.
This position is dedicated to handling the firm’s most complex motion practice, writs, and appellate matters—ensuring cases are strategically postured for success at trial and protected on appeal.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled legal writer and advocate with extensive experience in Texas civil procedure, dispositive motions, and appellate law. This attorney will collaborate closely with the litigation and trial teams to strengthen case strategy, preserve appellate issues, and deliver winning arguments in state and federal courts.
Key Responsibilities Draft, research, and argue all substantive motions in personal injury cases, including:
Motions for summary judgment
Motions to exclude or strike experts
Motions to compel discovery and other procedural motions
Motions in line and other trial-related motions
Responses and replies to opposing motions
Support trial teams with:
Jury charge and preservation-of-error issues
Post-trial motions (JNOVs, motions for new trial, remittitur, etc.)
Appellate strategy, writs, and briefing
Handle interlocutory and appellate briefing and oral arguments in state and federal courts.
Conduct advanced legal research and analysis on complex tort, evidentiary, and procedural issues.
Partner with trial attorneys to ensure every case is
trial-ready and appeal-protected .
Provide strategic guidance on motion practice to enhance case posture and maximize settlement or verdict value.
Mentor junior attorneys on legal writing, research, and motion practice best practices.
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school.
Licensed to practice in
Texas ; federal admissions preferred.
Minimum
12 years of litigation and appellate experience , ideally within personal injury, tort, or complex civil litigation.
Demonstrated success in drafting and arguing dispositive motions and appellate briefs.
Exceptional legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills.
Strong command of
Texas Rules of Civil Procedure ,
Rules of Evidence , and
Texas appellate procedure .
Ability to manage multiple high‑stakes matters in a
fast‑paced, high‑volume litigation environment .
