Matura Farrington is working closely with a prominent Am Law 100 firm on its search for an experienced
Conflicts Attorney
to support its risk management and professional responsibility function. This role plays a critical part in evaluating and resolving conflicts of interest related to new business intake, matter openings, client changes, and lateral attorney onboarding, while advising attorneys and leadership on ethics and risk considerations.
This is a fully remote role & can sit in California, Maryland, DC, or New York.
Role Overview The
Conflicts Attorney
conducts sophisticated conflicts analyses, provides strategic guidance on risk mitigation, and ensures compliance with applicable professional responsibility standards and internal policies. The role also supports intake workflows, prepares conflict-related documentation, and contributes to maintaining high-quality data and effective conflicts processes.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and analyze actual and potential conflicts of interest for current and prospective matters through detailed research using internal systems and external data sources
Interpret complex corporate, legal, and financial relationships to assess ethical, legal, and business risk
Recommend and implement conflict resolution strategies, including disclosures, consent mechanisms, ethical screens, and engagement adjustments
Draft and maintain conflict waivers, disclosures, engagement letter provisions, and supporting documentation
Review and analyze Outside Counsel Guidelines and engagement terms for conflicts-related requirements; advise on restrictions, screening obligations, and data updates
Conduct conflicts reviews for lateral attorney candidates, recommend resolutions in coordination with senior management and ethics leadership, and manage required communications and documentation before and after onboarding
Educate attorneys and legal staff on conflicts procedures, ethical obligations, new business intake processes, and client relationship considerations
Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to time-sensitive conflicts inquiries as needed
Qualifications & Experience Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar membership
At least 3 years of experience
in conflicts, ethics, or professional responsibility within a mid-to-large, multi-practice law firm
Prior private practice experience strongly preferred
Proven ability to analyze complex legal, business, and organizational structures
Experience with conflicts and new-business intake systems, supported by strong research and analytical skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present nuanced analyses to attorneys and firm leadership
Strong negotiation skills and a consultative, solutions-oriented approach
High degree of discretion, sound judgment, and professionalism in handling confidential matters
Strong attention to detail, client-service mindset, and responsiveness
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines
For candidates in major U.S. legal markets, the anticipated salary range is
$160,000–$200,000 , with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
