The Network Engineer II is responsible for the operations of secure and highly available computing platforms, servers, and networks; they install, maintain, upgrade and continuously improve the operating or application environment. They also maintain the ongoing reliability, performance and support of the infrastructure and systems. This includes monitoring, responding to incidents, problems, and planning for growth. This role deploys new technologies as well as designed, installs, configures, maintains and tests the networks and related utilities and hardware. This role must have customer service and vendor relationship skills. Attention to detail and strong communication and collaboration skills are critical to the success of this role.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Associates degree in Information Technology or Business, or equivalent professional experience and relevant training.

Experience: 5 or more years’ experience with network administration and security and systems such as Cisco and Palo Alto or any appropriate combination of education and experience as determined by management.

Travel: 15%.

Work Schedule: Typical work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday; however, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs. On call periodic as scheduled.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain, monitor and support network security, VPN, wireless, load balancing, routing, and switching infrastructure.

Follow defined procedures to monitor systems and resolve problems.

Support multiple infrastructure platforms of medium complexity with multiple concurrent users ensuring control, integrity, accessibility and performance.

Participate in short-term and long-term project efforts with stakeholders and Business Technology resources.

Work with project teams to understand business needs.

Work with other engineers to understand technical requirements.

Provide feedback and recommendations on requirements; ensure processes and requirements are met such as backup and system availability.

Monitor alerts and take appropriate actions; perform routine maintenance tasks for assigned systems such as backups and patch management; perform health checks based on check lists.

Monitor network operating capacity in terms of response time, availability and security; monitor hardware/software activities and resource utilization for capacity planning; suggest upgrades as needed.

Identify problems and optimize performance as needed; escalates as appropriate; follows change management process and procedures.

Analyze and report on operational metrics to ensure success in process improvements and capacity planning; may suggest other operational metrics to implement and monitor.

Provide Level 3 production support, troubleshoot problems, notify appropriate resources in the event of failure and work with resources to resolve issues; comply with service level agreements.

Adhere to security requirements and procedures, report issues as appropriate.

Document new or modified functions, modules, software or systems.

Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
