Manager, VAR Melt Operations – Morgantown, PA
Manage and direct VAR Shop and melted product shipping operations to meet delivery commitments, quality and specification requirements, financial (cost) commitments, safety goals, and continuous process and product improvements. Essential Functions
Interview, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, coach, discipline, promote and terminate personnel. Assist the Director of Operations in developing short‑term & long‑term goals for production, safety, quality and continuous improvement success of the VAR Melt Shop department. Support the Project Manager on melt related projects. Develop and implement Standard Operating and Manufacturing Procedures. Develop and implement melt profiles to maximize product quality and furnace productivity. Review work order instructions, quality planning items, blend sheets, prior chemistry reports, and other data as necessary to ensure accurate direction of work crews. Collect in-process and product data and analyze to verify conformance to procedures and specifications. Lead or participate in continuous improvement of processes (quality), equipment and maintenance (maximize reliability, melt time), including recording data and analysis for measurement of melt center performance, and develop into written standard procedures; specifically drive the 6‑S effort in the VAR. Develop and work to budgets to achieve cost management goals, and initiate or participate in cost reduction and/or profit improvement programs. Develop and work to attain productivity, delivery performance and yield goals. Manage engineering projects relating to capacity expansions, new technology and/or equipment-based process improvements. Maintain an effective preventive maintenance program; assist in problem solving for unplanned downtime. Maintain adequate spares and supplies to meet schedules; develop and maintain outside resources as needed. Issue monthly and weekly reports documenting key operational performance, achievements, projects, training, and maintenance work. Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering from a four‑year college or university and minimum of 3 years of related experience. (BSEE preferred) Furnace construction management experience a plus. Titanium experience desired (not required). Ability and desire to manage a 24‑hour per day, 7‑day per week manufacturing operation. Ability to work overtime as needed, work with back‑shift personnel, solve problems, and respond to emergencies. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Statistical knowledge/experience desired; ISO9000 experience helpful. Strong leadership and analytical skills. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all organization levels. Personal computer skills (MS Office experience desired). Seniority Level
