Join our team as a Unit Clerk Neuro Rehab Days - LOH. In this role, the successful candidate provides effective communication within the nursing unit and interdepartmentally. The clerk assists all authorized persons on the nursing unit, ascertains identity and purpose of all persons coming to the unit, and assists with patient‑related activities.
Job Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned.
Prepares store room orders according to unit schedule; receives supplies, checks inventory, puts away supplies, requisitions extra linen and emergency equipment, and returns excess supplies.
Enters admissions, transfers, discharges and census on 24‑hour report.
Participates in Quality Improvement activities as directed by NM/ANM.
Acts as an intermediary in provision of patient care and patient/visitor comfort; arranges televisions, phone, contacts barbers, accepts mail, etc.
Prepares list of patients attending religious services, places calls for clergy as requested.
Monitors and maintains proper patient identification on each patient’s door and bed; arranges transportation for diagnostic procedures.
Knows room location of all patients and nursing care assignments.
Contacts physicians, technicians and other team members via telephone as required.
Keeps adequate supply of assembled charts; provides for proper addressographing; adds chart forms as needed.
Adds patient reports to charts; sends reports of discharged or transferred patients to appropriate department.
Maintains supply of all chart forms; records discharge or transfer in Discharge/Transfer Book.
Requisitions, stores and returns old charts; handles charts confidentially; debrides charts as instructed.
Xeroxes or provides for copying of charts; files ICIS reports.
Initiates and follows through on specimen transactions; receives and records telephone reports on emergency lab work; places calls for stat procedures.
Performs clerical duties relating to admission, discharge, transfer and death of patient.
Initiates and follows through on equipment maintenance and repairs; reports needs to NM/ANM; prepares repair slips; contacts engineering or environmental services.
Greets and directs all arrivals to unit; acts as a receptionist, communicates politely and courteously.
Assists patients and/or visitors in locating departments such as Medical Records, Patient Accounts, etc.
Assists in direction and control of traffic on nursing unit; monitors visitor numbers; notifies NM/ANM of unauthorized persons; calls Loss Prevention as necessary.
Maintains bulletin boards and ensures policy, procedure manuals are current.
Initiates and follows through on all transactions involving supplies needed for patient care; orders supplies and equipment.
Arranges special procedures and obtains needed equipment; makes appointments for patient examinations during hospitalization and discharge.
Promptly answers telephone, screens and relays calls, takes messages, calls Code 44 when directed.
Makes and maintains unit records; keeps statistics as directed; greets, escorts and introduces patient at admission; checks identity; prepares clinical charts; notifies physician; enters patient name on unit records; labels door and bed.
Handles transfer or discharge by preparing forms, removing patient name from unit records, carrying out clerical routines including death certificates, discharge slips, etc.
Minimum Qualifications To qualify you must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

Salary Transparency The salary range for this role is $48,345.32 – $48,345.32 annually. Actual compensation depends on experience, education, and hospital needs. Bonus, incentive, and differential pay are not included.
