An
Egress Technician
is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and troubleshooting aircraft egress, canopy fracturing systems, and emergency oxygen system components to ensure compliance with prescribed maintenance requirements and manufacturer’s specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform conditional, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on ejection seats, canopy, and emergency oxygen systems.
Perform egress system troubleshooting tasks.
Perform required maintenance on SSK survival equipment.
Become ordnance qualified/certified to receive, handle, install and properly dispose of explosive ordnance related to egress systems.
Operate ground support equipment to perform egress and gaseous oxygen maintenance tasks.
Enter required data into computerized maintenance records (NALCOMIS OOMA, CAD/PAD, and VFS Trace), aircraft forms and history records.
Utilize and interpret information contained in maintenance manuals, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, technical publications, and operational procedures.
Order required equipment and supplies.
Perform collateral duty inspections and collateral duty quality assurance inspections as required.
Maintain cleanliness of work center.
Comply with FOD, hazardous waste, egress familiarization, and tool control programs.
Assist as directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of government/company-owned equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Deal with the customer in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
Be plane captain certified; perform pre‑flight/post‑flight/turnaround/daily inspections and servicing when required.
Perform inventory, acceptance, and transfer inspections.
Classification Qualifications Knowledge of CNAFINST 4790.2 (series), NAVAIR 11‑100‑1.1 (series), and other applicable maintenance/technical manuals.
Working knowledge of aircraft egress systems and applicable explosive devices.
Education / Licenses High school graduation or GED required. Completion of AME “A” school, or applicable military service school equivalent, or T/M/S factory equivalent training curriculum.
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet any government/company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.
Experience At least two (2) years’ experience in work directly related to aircraft egress and canopy fracturing systems.
Physical Effort Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, working in uncomfortable positions. Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. Requires close vision including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Hearing must be within normal range.
Working Conditions Work may be in a standard shop environment or in inclement weather with severe temperature, wind, rain variations. May be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment. May require travel in support of cross‑country rescue and detachment operations of unknown duration.
Potential Hazards Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme temperature changes, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets and explosive devices.
Work Location Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flightline.
