Overview The Business Development Department’s commercial objective is to grow firm revenue and capture market share by leveraging and expanding the firm’s offerings. The Business Development Specialist (BDS) works closely with the Business Development Manager to support strategic, commercial, and practical initiatives that enhance client relationships, brand visibility, and market presence for the Asset Management practice.
Responsibilities
Support the Business Development Manager (BDM) in developing and executing marketing and business development efforts to generate new business.
Understand the practice group’s ambitions and identify, assess, and pursue new client opportunities.
Assist in maintaining reporting and communication frameworks to track progress and share outcomes.
Help grow existing client relationships by collaborating with business support colleagues, including organizing, participating in, and maintaining business development meetings.
Conduct research on industry, market intelligence, and client insights to support the BD strategy.
Support pitching and new business generation by project‑managing pitches, proposals, and RFPs, ensuring timely completion, proper storage, and follow‑up actions.
Work with marketing and business support colleagues to identify branding and profile‑raising opportunities, assess conference participation, and target knowledge marketing initiatives.
Build knowledge of adjacent practice services and support the BDM in monitoring market opportunities and trends for client engagement.
Support the onboarding, mentoring, and training of new team members and assist in business development training initiatives for attorneys.
Qualifications

Superior client service orientation and the ability to quickly establish credibility with stakeholders.
Strong team player who can develop relationships across all aspects of the business.
Self‑starter, dynamic, and solutions‑oriented with excellent organization, communication, and project management skills.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Effective oral and written communication skills at all levels, with experience writing in a professional services environment.
Creative and flexible when managing workload and responding to shifting demands.
Demonstrated initiative to improve processes and implement positive change.
Ability to thrive in a challenging, dynamic environment.
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree required.
3‑5 years of business development experience within a professional services firm or corporate environment.
Compensation and Total Rewards Package Ropes & Gray offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package, including health and well‑being benefits, personal and professional development, career growth opportunities, and a collegial culture. The anticipated pay ranges are:
Boston: $70,500 – $107,550
New York: $73,900 – $112,650
San Francisco: $77,200 – $117,750
Roles are eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. Compensation is determined by job‑related factors, including qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
Working Conditions Hybrid on‑site presence is required. Consistent and predictable on‑site presence is essential for business continuity, professional development, and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
