Surveyor Engineer Under the direction of the Survey Division Manager, coordinates the activities of a field survey party; performs the most technically‑complex paraprofessional field surveying duties to support heavy highway construction staking, responsible for calculations, various staking including bridges, storm drain, ponds, sewer, striping, ROW, surfaces, and may include machine control paving, profilographing, and performs other duties as required on heavy highway projects and commercial projects. Is responsible for the effective performance, training, and safety of all members of a field survey party. Coordinates with Project Managers on workloads and staking needs, is focused on safety for all team members. Must know how to read plans and specifications. Actively participates in and provides input for the evaluation of personnel involved with their projects. Must be willing to work solo, nights, weekends, and be willing to travel when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Participates in pre‑survey planning meetings with Project Managers, Resident Engineers, and contractor representatives.

Assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew.

Instructs and trains survey crew in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.

Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods.

Sets up, adjusts, and operates various types of surveying equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles.

Performs complex surveying and engineering calculations and prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, and other survey and engineering reports.

Represents Company in project meetings, client meetings, etc.

Position Requirements

A minimum of 4 years of survey experience with a heavy Civil / Highway construction is preferred.

A minimum of 2 years of experience with Trimble and Leica equipment is preferred but not mandatory.

Good communication skills, both verbally and written.

Proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and MS Outlook Exchange is preferred but not mandatory.

Proficient with AutoCAD, Civil 3d, and or Trimble Business Center.
