Resident Mechanical Engineer
Expected compensation: 75.00 - 95.00 USD per hour
HireArt is helping our client find a Resident Mechanical Engineer to serve as WbyT’s on‑site engineering representative during prototype and low‑volume vehicle builds. This role ensures that integration, fit/finish validation, and rework activities are executed efficiently and documented accurately.
Responsibilities
Provide on‑site mechanical engineering support at the Livonia build facility.
Identify and resolve build‑blocking mechanical, assembly, or integration issues in real time.
Coordinate with WbyT engineers, technicians, and suppliers to triage issues and execute rework.
Support fit/finish assessments and manage deviation documentation.
Oversee part updates and local vendor engagement for quick‑turn fabrication and validation.
Document daily build status, open actions, and rework progress using structured reporting templates.
Provide weekly build summaries and final post‑build reports highlighting resolved issues, ongoing risks, and recommendations for process improvement.
Maintain a consistent on‑site presence during build periods (7:00 AM–3:00 PM, with flexibility to align to the build schedule) and remain available remotely during non‑build periods for documentation and follow‑up.
Requirements
5–8 years of hands‑on mechanical engineering experience, ideally in prototype or low‑volume build environments.
Hands‑on mechanical design and build experience with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues in real time.
Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills; must be able to work directly with technicians, engineers, and suppliers on‑site.
Proficiency in interpreting 3D CAD models, drawings, and GD&T for validating design intent and guiding assembly adjustments.
Experience coordinating quick‑turn fabrication and vendor engagement, with comfort managing small‑scope fabrication and rework locally.
Experience in high‑volume automotive production is a plus.
