Minimum Qualifications

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).

Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

No state license is required (MD, OH, PA).

MRI Technologist License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners (WV).

Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

Experience

Three (3) years’ experience working in MRI.

Preferred Qualifications

ARRT Certification in Radiography.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Leads MRI staff to insure the optimum in imaging procedures as indicated by image quality, repeat analysis, audits and/or patient follow up.

Coordinates and schedules staff to facilitate the daily operations.

Identifies peak flow times and supports the MRI technologist to minimize patient wait times.

Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.

Supports staff by promoting cooperative problem solving and team building.

Acts as role model by displaying professional attitude and demeanor while applying professional techniques.

Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on needs of the patient.

Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.

Evaluates images compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression and absence of image artifact. Assures proper patient identification appears on every image.

Educates patients regarding MRI procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.

Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.

Engages in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical and support personnel throughout the hospital.

Instructs radiography students in the clinical setting in support of Educational Programs.

Performs a full range of MRI processing and imaging quality control tests in accordance with ACR technologist’s manual guidelines and documents them in the MRI Quality Control Test notebook.

Displays imaging techniques, patient care and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.

Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.

Maintains clean, neat and well stocked procedure area.

Physical Requirements

Extended periods of standing and walking.

Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of weight.

Carry items of up to 20 lbs.

Working Environment

Works in a strong magnetic field.

May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries, and death.

Possible exposure to: ionizing radiation and sharps.

Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of MRI procedures and safety-issues, organization skills, communication skills, computer skills, multi-tasking.

Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations at any given time.
