is currently seeking a
Lead Engineer – Mechanical Systems
to join our Space Systems Development team in Huntsville, AL. As a Mechanical Systems Lead Engineer with T2S, you will lead your team of mechanical and aerospace engineers in all aspects of structural design, prototyping, stress and dynamics analysis, thermal design and analysis, and verification testing of low‑earth orbit (LEO) hosted payloads. You will work directly with proliferated‑LEO spacecraft providers for the accommodation of T2S payloads and collaborate with other T2S payload subsystem lead engineers to develop next‑generation space systems. Anticipated travel is up to 20%.
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan, conceptualize, and lead your team to execute aerospace system mechanical design and supporting analyses for the combined payload as well as placement and mechanical accommodation for all payload components on the host spacecraft
Lead the development of mechanical environmental test requirements, as well as test planning and execution oversight
Perform structural, thermal, and vibration analyses using industry-standard simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS or equivalent) to validate mechanical designs and ensure compliance with mission and environmental requirements
Coordinate with other engineering, manufacturing, and specialty engineering personnel to resolve issues and data/action requests from procurement, integration, testing, or other Integrated Product Teams
Lead the conduct of analyses and trade studies that will support development of requirements and employment strategies for future spacecraft payloads
Participate in the preparation of technical proposals including proposal concepts, business plans, proposal work statements, and specifications
Provide guidance on official document release of engineered drawings submitted by the mechanical subsystem engineering team
Ability to travel to company offices, customer sites, or supplier sites as required
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be able to qualify for and maintain a DoD Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
Bachelor's degree (required) or M.S. degree (desired) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field and at least 7 years of aerospace/mechanical‑related professional work experience directly supporting space‑domain projects
Familiarity with aerospace vehicle product verification requirements via SMC‑S‑016 and/or MIL‑STD‑1540
Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software (Mechanical Design, Drawings, Assemblies)
Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Proficiency using FEA/FEM software (Abaqus, ANSYS)
Experience in following Configuration Management processes
History of success in planning and executing design tasks with limited general direction and ability to work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
