Overview

Electrical Distribution Electrician role at The University of Texas at Austin. Location: AUSTIN, TX. Department: Utilities and Energy Management. Weekly scheduled hours: 40. FLSA status: To Be Determined at Offer. Earliest start date: Ongoing. Position duration: Expected to Continue. Position requires demonstrated expertise in electrical construction and maintenance, especially in underground systems maintenance and repair, and LV and MV switchgears with the ability to work safely on energized and de-energized systems, interpret technical drawings, and perform complex field operations with minimal supervision. Responsibilities

Follow all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, identify and report safety hazards, wear proper PPE, and report near misses and incidents. Participate in the on-call program and working after-hours. Install, operate, maintain, and repair low- and medium-voltage metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear associated with campus electrical distribution systems. Perform functional and diagnostic testing, inspect and service breakers, and ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and procedures. Maintain accurate electronic documentation of maintenance activities and system conditions. Perform medium underground cable installation, pulling, splicing, and terminations for lead-jacketed and EPR-insulated cables. Include installation, operation, and maintenance of underground distribution systems (duct banks, manholes, vaults, raceways, grounding and protective systems). Install and pull LV wire as required. Work on exposed and overhead electrical distribution systems, including raceway and various cable types. Designated personnel may climb poles, towers, and other elevated structures to install, maintain, and repair electrical components and low-voltage lighting systems. Update record drawings and create switching orders. Review and evaluate design proposals and specifications for feasibility. Communicate effectively both verbally and electronically. Operate forklift, bobcat, backhoe, bucket truck, cable trailer, pulling devices, and assorted personnel lifts. Drive UT vehicles. Use standard hand tools, digital volt-ohm meter, high voltage tester, high pot, megohmmeter. Perform other related functions as assigned. Maintain accurate electronic documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and system conditions; timely entry, updating, and tracking of work orders, asset information, and service histories within UT-Works CMMS. Complete required training certification within 24 months. Maintain an acceptable driving record as required by UT Systems Policy UTS157. Wear uniforms and carry University-issued cell phone during work and on-call hours. Attend staff and safety meetings; participate in switchgear operation and maintenance training; provide on-the-job training for lower-skill electricians as required. Carry University cell phone during on-call hours. Follow all safety policies and procedures. Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of three years of experience in the electric utility field. Advanced skills in overhead and underground electrical installations and maintenance, or competence in MV electrical systems, with professional mastery of utility line construction and repair. Accuracy in developing record drawings and equipment specifications. Ability to work well within a team and demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience installing and maintaining switchgear and distribution systems. Completion of a formal line worker apprentice program. Equivalent military electrical/power distribution training. Driving

This job requires a class C driver’s license. The applicant must provide a current three-year driving record. If not a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Salary

Salary Range: $65,000 + depending on qualifications. Working and Environmental Conditions

Uniforms and/or personal protective equipment provided. May work in all weather conditions and extreme temperatures; may work around chemical fumes, electricity, and mechanical hazards. May work around standard office conditions, biohazards, and chemical exposure. May work in confined spaces, tunnels, and manholes; extended shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends. Operate forklifts, personnel lifts, and cranes; perform elevated work as required. Physical Tasks

May lift up to 50 lbs; frequent twisting, grasping, pushing, pulling and bending; occasional elevated work and climbing. Required Materials
